ABOUT AMON ROBINSON

From Nat King Cole to Lionel Richie, the history of soulful music in the River Region includes dozens of legends that laid the groundwork for aspiring musicians. Amon Robinson's mission is to preserve and teach music's history and importance through the lens of Montgomery, AL. Currently, Amon serves as the director of bands at Baldwin Magnet School.

Amon earned his degree in professional music from Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. Still, his love and appreciation of music stemmed from his late grandfather, Wilbur Terrell. The latter was a touring member of Clarence Carter's touring band and a songwriter for several of Carter's hit Records. Amon was able to honor his grandfather in 2009 by developing a jazz ensemble that would later bear the elder Terrell's name at his alma mater, BTW Magnet High School.

Music education for Amon continued with a Master of Music Education from Alabama State University. His dedication to creating, teaching, and preserving music had come when many schools discontinued music from curriculums. Still, this musician remembers his support from his hometown too well to stand idly by. Amon belongs to numerous organizations, including the Alabama Jazz & Blues Federation, which provides opportunities for young musicians to learn, practice, and perform.

Amon enjoys spending time with his wife, Shelecia, and family when not actively participating in music. As an accomplished musician in his own right, having played with Kirk Whalum, Willie Nelson, and Kevin Eubanks, Amon continues to write and produce music, including his latest EP, Contemplation, which streams on all platforms.
